Standardized Assessments
Third grade is a big year for "data". Data is a word we use more and more in the education world, and it's important because it's used to help teachers tailor instruction to each child, and monitor student growth and progress from year to year. During 3rd grade, the state begins to recognize the data that we collect as our students learn and grow. For some, sorting through the assessments can be confusing, so I've made a list of the assessments we will be using this school year to monitor each students progress.
IREAD–3 will take place March 16-20, 2020. This test evaluates whether children can read competently at third grade level. This high-stakes test will determine if your child is eligible to advance on to 4th grade.
I-Learn will take place in April 20-May 15, 2020. ILEARN is the new high stakes test that will replace the ISTEP test. All sections of the test will be taken online and it will include a variety of question types including typing, short answer and multiple choice. .It will cover Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics.
NWEA-Northwest Evaluation Association is an adaptive test that will give teachers a clear look at the growth students are achieving. An adaptive assessment means that the questions are tailored to each child depending on their answers. This assessment is new to the EVSC as of 2016, and will be given 3 times a year (Beginning, middle and end).
Informal Assessments will also be given on a regular basis deemed appropriate by the classroom teacher and third grade team. These may include: running records, anecdotal notes, checklists, conferences, unit tests, reading response notebook, and rubrics.
